Materials, Electrochemistry & Microfluidics for Biomedical and Energy Research Lab
We work on application-oriented materials, electrochemistry, and microfluidics research fields, based in Room MB208, Chemical Engineering Department.
Some of the research topics are described as follows-
Our lab is a multidisciplinary hub at the forefront of microfluidics, bioenergy, and advanced green hydrogen and battery technologies, bridging the gap between biomedical innovation and sustainable energy solutions.
We design and develop cutting-edge systems — from microfluidic platforms for biomedical diagnostics to Bioelectrochemical cells that harvest clean energy. Our research also explores next-generation battery materials for energy storage and healthcare applications. With a team driven by curiosity and impact, we work at the nexus of biology, chemistry, and engineering, translating research into real-world solutions that address global challenges in health, environment, and energy.
💡 Our Focus Areas:
Microfluidic systems for biomedical & chemical analysis
Bioenergy generation via microbial fuel/desalination cells
Sustainable battery and energy storage materials
Integration of green technology in healthcare applications
🌍 Our Mission
To create innovative, sustainable, and impactful technologies that empower both healthcare and clean energy futures.
Heritage & Focus Areas Department of Chemical Engineering was founded in 1951, with the institute. That year, one of the earliest post-graduate programs (in Combustion Engineering and Fuel Economy) began under Professor Weissweller Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur . Today, the department is actively engaged in research across diverse domains: pollution control, transport processes, coal & petroleum technology, and membrane-based systems Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur Fugacity IIT KGP . Funded by major industries and agencies like L&T, SAIL, ONGC, Tata Steel, BHEL, and more, the department works on projects spanning process control, environmental technologies, effluent treatment, and energy systems
Student Body & Activities The Chemical Engineering Association (ChEA-IITKGP) acts as the student body, encouraging engagement in industrial visits, seminars, and discussions on pollution control, transport processes and more.
